At the age of 16, Dmitrijev started his career at third division side Tallinna Jalgpalliklubi, which acted as a reserve team for FC TVMK Tallinn. In 1999, he made a debut for TVMK in the Meistriliiga and appeared in 8 matches for the team in that season, but mainly remained as the reserve team player.[2]
He had a short spell in Esiliiga with HÜJK Emmaste, before joining Levadia in 2001.
He was dropped from the squad and transfer listed before the 2008 Meistriliiga season after he rejected a contract extension.[3]
On 31 March 2008, Dmitrijev joined Norwegian First Division side Hønefoss BK on loan[4] and signed a permanent deal with the club on 30 July 2008.[5]
In February 2011, he signed a 2,5 year deal with FC Ural Sverdlovsk Oblast.[6]
He has been capped 70 times but has not scored any goals.[1]
